poem, quickie

Just a simple poem I wrote up last night while waiting for a friend at a restaurant. sharing here so I’ve got a record if it.

Rough cut, no edits:

Hung out to dry,
I let out a sigh filled with sorrow and pain at the way you said goodbye
to me.
It took being blinded to finally see.
With rocks in my chest,
I tried my best
to force these feet of stone to move –
But I’ve waded through too much mud in the patience of my love
and it’s caked on so thick
I think I’ll trip when I finally run away from you.
But that view’ll be the best thing I can do for for the wounded warriors in my bones,
The ones that know,
This whole thing with you wasn’t really you, it was me.
My poor knees,
they’re gonna bruise and bleed in the wake of my pleading for mercy.
Lord knows we’re our own worst critics.

bliss, deep, heart, home, kindness, love, melody, moon, moonshine, music, ocean, orbit, sun, tenderness

today, i finally finished a poem that i started back in December. and i thought i would share it with YOU, my beautiful friends and fellow travelers on this crazy, terrifying, absolutely thrilling journey we call life. because sharing ourselves with the world around us is what this whole thing is all about, isn’t it?

………………………………..

i’m in so deep i can barely breathe,
the waves of your kindness washing over me.
my face is sun-kissed
by your tenderness
as you orbit around my heart
until night turns to daybre
ak and the day breaks over me.
this moonshine on my arm is art.

the wind of your summer-sweet voice plays with my hair
and the air of your love strums a melody between my ribs
until the sound of you fills the space inside my lungs.

home is where the heart is.

everything is not as though it seems
for it is dawn
and with the sun, i’m waking up to dream.

an impostor, Fear prances around like King.
and with his lies, he’s self-pronounced dominion over everything.

but there is One.
bright shining as the sun,
he has come
to dawn on the horizon of your life.
the true King, he sings, the song of love.
mercy and truth set the foundation for his throne,
and all the good he’s planned for you could never be fully known.
he’s overthrown the impostor,
righted what was wrong, brought peace where death has sown disaster.
his is the Kingdom of love,
and all that fear has sown has been undone.
he has won!

with grace, he seeks the one, knocking on the door of death.
and with his kiss of love, he offers every man his breath, of life.

……………………………….

hey, I'm Randi!

Today is an unspoiled gift, given to you to be enjoyed, used up, completely spent, and sucked dry of all it’s worth. Don’t sell Today short – get the most out of it. Press it, pull it, squeeze it, shake it – until all of the goodness and joy and beauty that could possibly come from it has been dispensed. And then fall asleep at it’s end, completely satisfied in your content confidence, and absolutely persuaded that when you wake, you’ll get the beautiful opportunity to do it all again.

Be intentional about today.
Perceive it;
Grab a hold of it;
Suck it dry of all it has to offer;
And then give thanks for it.
For tomorrow will surely come.
